AM I YOUR MENTOR ?

I have been photographing families and events since 2011. However, it wasn't until 2017 that I took the plunge into operating my own photography business. At that time, I had a major case of the 'scaries.' I always thought, "I'm an artist, not a business person." To be honest, starting my business scared the shit out of me, and the fear took over. It took me a couple of years to formulate my plan and actually follow through with it.
With that being said, I started my photography business a year after moving to a new city with two toddlers, a house renovation, and a traveling husband. Despite the challenges, I took a huge leap of faith. Seven years later, I'm still here, pursuing my dreams. It hasn't come without its trials and tribulations, but the mistakes are where I learned and grew. They are the stepping stones to my continued growth as a working lifestyle photographer and educator.
My background is in the fine arts, specifically graphic design. However, my heart longed to be in the darkroom. No matter what profession I've had, photography has always been a constant, steady love that continues to bring me opportunities. Over the course of my career, I've photographed families, weddings, elopements, newborns, portraits, products, landscapes, and events. During that time, I discovered my voice as a photographer and where the heart of my work lies.
My business and inspiration evolve each year, and I attribute that growth to the people I work alongside in this creative life. As a lifestyle photographer and mentor, I strive to share my knowledge and experiences with aspiring photographers, guiding them on their own artistic journeys.
A Note to you, the artist behind the lens.
When you hear the phrase, 'Putting your work out into the world is not for the weak-hearted," I GET IT. Moreover, when you compound that with imposter syndrome, algorithms, social media, marketing, saturated markets, gear, and the everyday challenges of living your life, it's easy to become overwhelmed and discouraged. You might even feel like you've lost your creative mojo. Doubt creeps in, and nothing kills an idea like doubt.
In my experience, creativity is fluid. It ebbs and flows. Your creative process isn't always a neat, straightforward path. At times, it can be a bit zig-zagged or even have some dead ends. Life gets in the way. Fear gets in the way. Fatigue gets in the way. So, what is currently holding you back?
Sometimes, you need a little help from your photographer friend—ahem, me. I will provide you with honest, constructive, and friendly feedback, and we can work collaboratively together, either virtually or in-person. I don't claim to be an expert, nor do I believe there is only one 'correct' way for things to be done. Instead, I offer you my distinct viewpoint and toolset, aiming to provide you with fresh concepts, resources, and motivation to propel your ever-evolving business forward.
Creativity is contagious, and nothing lights me up more than working alongside other photographers and seeing them succeed! I'm an open book, so let's start a conversation about how I can support you as an artist and business owner. Together, we can ignite your creative spark and overcome any obstacles that stand in your way.
